Hi all, I have a 1996 Volvo Penta 5.0fi with a six cobra stern drive, have a question I'm changing out my cable I pulled the old one out with a wire connected to it so when I pull the new one through. I'm planing on taping the wire to the cable and help up it through. Do I have the right idea. Or is there a better way I'm worried the wire will slip off. Thanks in advance.

This needs to be in the VP section for best results. Not a VP guy but cables should be the same.

Your old cable has a threaded piece with a barrel nut on it. This piece was removed in order to remove the cable jacket. Take a hack saw and cut about 1/2 inch off the threaded end. Now you have a short piece with a hole in it. You can use the wire, but most use the 100 pound skinny nylon string. Slide the string thru the hole and tie a knot. Screw the end into the new cable and pull it back thru
