I recently bought a 16ft Starcraft, probably 70's or 80's, I can attach more photos of the boat itself if needed. When I bought it the boat had a cable/pulley system set up for the steering. Only problem is all of the pulleys save for one were chipped and in terrible condition and the vinyl coating had come off of the cable everywhere but at the drum on the back of the steering wheel. It was extremely loud and chattered a lot as you steered, basically worked like complete crap. I took the whole thing off and now my question is do I replace with original cable/pulley steering or go to teleflex. Also, in the attached picture will my outboard take a telefex steering system, this is the one I was looking at: [h=1]SeaStar Solutions Safe-T Quick-Connect Rotary Steering System, SS137[/h]
Thanks in advance for any replies, new to the forum and boating as well, so I'm sure I'll be on here a lot!
