New to boating, and purchased a 1002 Reinell 170m with a Cobra 3.0 HO engine. Engine runs fantastically (after I replaced the water pump and thermostat!). Started it up for the first time in about three months. It runs very well, and no problems in forward gear. When I try to put it in reverse, it lunges/chokes, and if I try to accellerate in reverse, it stalls. Anybody have any thoughts?!?!?! Again, everything runs perfectly, except for this glitch. Thank you all in advance for your discussion/advice!!

Welcome aboard

on your 1014 year old boat, (you did say its a 1002) it is most likely your shift interrupt switch or the shift cable that actuates it needs adjustment. I am going to go with shift cable needs adjustment

Thank you very much!!! Perhaps I should check before I send!! Its a 1992.
I always try to remember to proof read.Keeps me from posting funny stuff.
If you get us your prop size(usually under the prop nut)and your lightly loaded wot rpm and gps speed.
We can help fine tune your setup.
