Will my Evinrude box work on a Mariner Engine

The Starcraft I am restoring came with no engine, but it has an Evinrude Simplex 2-lever control box.

I have a 1989 Mariner 40hp that I want to put on.

I need new cables anyway, but can i keep the Evinrude box? I'd prefer to not have to get a Mercury box.

No it won't sorry you need the mercury box

I have to side with flyingscott with this one. While different manufacturers use similar working cable setups for engine control. The real differences come in with the movement of the cables themselves. One setup might move the cable 4" while the other 6", and that would still not be that bad if the directions corresponded with the controls they are working. :sorry: JMHO!

If you managed to make the cables work, you would still need to rewire the harness from the control to the motor.
