What is the proper length for control cable on a 1973 Ouachita tri haul??? I have the merc control ofcourse but I feel like the controls are to long. ive tried to adjust them but I have to put the throttle all the way forward in order to make it start going! any suggestions? thanks

Sounds about normal.
That control arm has to engage the gearcase first, then the throttle.
You certainly don't want to be revving the engine before the gears are meshed, or they will be MASHED !

Anyway, the length of the cable will make no difference in what you describe.

The cables need to be long enough to allow for turning and tilting of the engine, with no binding of the cables.

Often times there is a loop, of "excess cable", just in front of the engine.
