Looking at putting two batteries in the little fishing boat I got with a 50hp force. Was wondering if I could run a crank battery in position 1, deep cell in position 2, and run it like that?

Starting the boat on "both" and operating on "2"... would that work?

Sure it will work but you don't need to start on BOTH. Use "!" for starting. What accessories do you have on this "little" boat that you feel you need a separate deep cycle for? My feeling is that you need a separate battery on a small boat ONLY if you have a trolling motor or a stereo system with a huge amplifier. Even then, there is really no need for the switch since the engine is not capable fully charging the trolling motor battery unless you run wide open for hours at a time. If shore power is available, install an on-board smart charger to keep the troller battery charged.
