2001 Yamaha. Choke is built into the key switch.{push in type). Anyway it's not working. Cannot trace wires back to the source on the motor? Any help, Thanks

dean, obviously you can't actually trace the wires inside the hull, but you can go to the choke and see if voltage on the choke while somebody pushes in on the key in the on position (or start position). And if there is voltage there, you either have a bad ground from the choke, or the choke is bad... If you don't have voltage there, you are going to have to remove the ignition switch and test the choke terminal. Otherwise, you have a broken wire in the hull... JMHO!

Having trouble tracing down the choke wires. Yamaha 90HP. From the ing. switch, 8 pin connection? From there lost in space!

Am I understanding that you can get to the ignition switch? If so use a meter to see if you have voltage on the switch when you push in the key while in the "on" or "run" position...

The choke switch is not on the motor. It is in the ignition key assembly. The choke is on the engine. It is either a solenoid that operates the choke butterflies in the carburetors, or it is solenoid that dumps extra fuel into the intake (called a primer) for cold starts. I think Yamaha was calling their enrichment system "Prime Start" by 2001. It probably does not have conventional choke butterflies in the carbs. Because of this you may not even hear the solenoid. Why do you think the enrichment system is not working?

Unload to water, pump primer. Takes quiet awhile to start. dies, restart. Cold natured. But once warm, will restart all day long. Found wiring sch., from sw. yellow and blue wires. Going out this a.m. to get for power, then trace wires.

OK -- which primer are you pumping? The squeeze bulb in the fuel line (called the primer bulb) or are you just pushing the key switch in repreatedly. If you are merely pumping the key switch you are accomplishing nothing. You hold the key in while cranking the engine.
