wire by gas fill neck

Hi. I have a 17' bowrider and I noticed that there is a black wire by the gas fill neck that is not hooked up in the engine compartment . Should i hook that up to the neck somehow right away or is it ok with it not being connected? thanks in advanced

Connect it to the neck. It is a ground.

Agree with Bill and will add, if the neck and all components are not metal the ground will do nothing, just leave it disconnected
