Last week when I started out in my boat I noticed the tach was showing much higher RPM than the engine was running. I knew this because I could tell by the sound of the engine. On this day when running at my normal speed, usually about 20 MPH ( about 4200 RPM) the tach was showing over 6000 RPM but the engine was not screaming. After a while the tach settled down and seem to indicate the true RPM. Anyone have a clue why the tach went wild for a short time? I'm running a 2005 17.5 Bass Tracker, Merc 60 EFI 4-stroke.
