hi Iv got a furuno FCV-663 which is totally dead when the tempersature is near zero (degrees C), it took hours to find this out, but when the unit is on the boat its dead, at home it works. Eventually found that if i put the unit oustide in my shed where its near freezing temperatures, after half an hour it wont switch on, totally dead and no power lights etc, bring it in the house and after about half an hour it works. Repeated many times its definately to do with the air temperature, it uses a CRT, any ideas what it could be?

thanks

:welcome: Charlie. What I used to do to isolate components that fail as you describe is use a non-conductive freeze spray. Take the covers off and turn it on. Start spraying carefully until you hit the bad component. Spray circuit boards too, the unit may have a crack in a board that opens when it's cold. Google Electronic freeze spray, you may have a near-by store that carries it.
