Hello everyone I am wanting to build my own DVA adapter and I have searched the forums and found several mentions and diagrams that are years old. I have also started looking on ebay and googling for the parts but everytime I find the parts I have to buy 5 to 100. Does anyone have links or somewhere to look for the parts where I can buy just what I need? Or do you know of anywhere that sells a DVA adapter cheap that does not want to retire off the shipping price. From what I have gathered I am looking for the following. Please correct me if I am wrong.

2.2uF 450V RADIAL Capacitor
Found this link that I think will work http://www.ebay.com/itm/NTE-NEVH2-2M...item54011e501c

On these below I have to buy a ton. Does anyone have a source.

1A; 400V Rectifier Diode

1 megaohm; 1/4w resistor

Here is what I have found on Radio Shack does all this look correct?

or this one?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

The RS eBay cap is correct, The one directly from RS is a 0.22 NOT a 2.2uF.
All the other parts are valid.

Nothing in the circuit is critical. Nearly any Diode rated over 200 volts will work.
The cap can be anywhere from 1 to 10 uF, and >200 Volts, and not cause an issue.
If is just a basic rectifier and filter circuit.

Ok I got all the parts and built it tonight. If there a test I can perform to make sure it is working properly before I take it to the boat. If I plug the DVA adapter into a wall 120 socket and set the meter to DC I get a reading of 166.8. If I plug the volt meter directly in and set to AC I get 121.4 volts. Is my homemade dva meter working properly? Or is there another test I can perform before I take it to the boat?

Jstatham, I plugged my DVA into the wall and got the same readings as you,166 volts.

120V is the RMS voltage. What you measured is correct. 120V * 1.414 = 170V. That is the peak voltage. You are every close to that.

The multi meter measures the voltage in RMS voltage on AC.
