I have a boat with 2 Evinrude Lark 35 (1959) engines and have built a wiring harness using the old harness with new wires and replaced the solenoid in the power box. Some of the wires are different colors but I followed the diagram carefully. When I tried to start, it would not start except by bypassing the solenoid. The engines then started right up! But, only by connecting across the solenoid. So I had a friend look at it and he made some adjustments after checking the grounds. He added a ground from the solenoid and connected the two black wires from the engine together that go to the starter switch and the other wire from the starter switch then went to a ground. I am attaching the diagram from the power box with a photo of the wiring now along with an attachement with descriptions of where each wire goes. With the wiring harness, it is hard to tell where the wires go btween the plug and the engine, though except by colors, which are faded. Any suggestions?
