I am in the process of rebuilding a 1979 deck boat with an 85 hp Johnson. It has a center console. I have decided to put the battery under the console for better weight distribution. The cables will run approx 12’ feet to the stern attached to power posts. From there I will attach the original battery cables to the motor.
Question: From searching and reading, I have determined that I will either need 2 awg or 4 awg marine battery cables. Am I even in the ballpark? And if so, which would be the better choice?

with wire size, smaller number (larger wire) is better as you increase lengths. I would run 2awg as a minimum, most likely running 0 or 00.

Thanks. I was planning on using 2awg, but read that someone had used 4awg for a similar set up. I actually found some 0awg for a good price just this morning. I think I'll go with that.
Thanks again
