I have a 1987 bayliner trophy with the glass fuse style, some of the clips that hold the fuse is not tight (they actually get hot to the touch) should i replace this fuse block with the same style or should i replace it with a newer fuse style? and is it a pain in the butt? I'm just worried about catching on fire.

I would replace it with ATC fuses and the fuse block for ATC. They give much better contact and don't tend to rot away as these glass fuses do in humidity.
I like these ones:

Not much to it in installation. Mark/label all your wires before you take them off and then attach them to the new fuse block. Use the same fuse rating as you had before and you are fine.
Be aware that some boats (and bayliners) have two different plus bars and the BlueSea ones have only one. That would mean that you need two of them unless they have one with independent circuits (didn't check).

Edit: they do have individual ones but only with 6 fuses....

you are lucky! all on the same bar.
This one will fit and you have 3 fuses left for future expansions:
http://www.bluesea.com/products/5029...its_with_Cover Search term Blue Sea 5029 to find a good price.

You will have to replace the .1" plugs with ring lugs which is a good thing as the ones used in your boat are pretty bad for marine applications (brittle plastic insulation). You better use the ones which come with shrink tube over them (if you have the correct and good crimp tool!) or go with bare metal and a dual wall shrink tube after you crimped (I prefer the later version).

Wiring will be dead simple. The red thick wire to the right goes to the common terminal of the new fuse block and the individual wire to wherever they fit best. Insert an ATC fuse with the same rating into the new slot and you're done.
I would label the wires before you take them off. Best with what they are but 1 to 9 already helps. Then you know at least where they were.
Wiring schematic: http://assets.bluesea.com/files/reso...-5029_5034.pdf (fuse rating naturally as required and not as shown)

If you use the new style ATC fuses with LED's build in they will light up when a fuse is blown.

yeah, you could probably fix that a bit. Usually caused by some corrosion in the fuse holder. You could clean it well with contact cleaner (spray), press the clamps a bit together and then seat the fuses back with some dielectric grease. However, I prefer the newer style fuses and fuse blocks. A bit pricey but worth it.
These glass fuses don't take humid environments to well and sometimes the metal caps just fall off.
