Hooking up original Tach to 1997 Quicksilver Mercury 40 HP

Hi,

I have the original tach, I am confused on how to hook it up to the 1997 quicksilver I am guessing the wire I need it available out of the controls? Do I need to purchase a wiring harness to use it? Or Can I run a single wire out?

You can use a harness if there is a place to plug it in on the front of the remote. The gray wire in the harness normally goes to the tach for the signal but I don't see any place to connect it. What brand is the tach? Or maybe someone else recognizes it.

Thanks Bill, the tach is the original that came on the 1972 Starcraft Holiday. Its mercury tach. Im not sure if its for a 4 Cylinder or not?
Is it wiser to just buy the appropriate tach for a my motor a 1997 40 HP mercury?
