I recently purchased an old 76' 85HP Johnson 85EL76D and have been going thru it. I had to remove the ignition and take it to the shop to have find a replacement key. It was Key #23. I rewired the switch and am 100% positive the wires are back in their original positions ( I took Pics before I took everything apart so I could ensure it all went back the same way). I hooked the battery up, I verified I have 12V @ the starter, I plugged in the Round Red Plug @ the Engine but... I seem to have NO POWER @ the Switch. When I try to use my Meter at the Plug back on the motor, I get Nada!!! Shjould I get a voltage reading in the plug on the motor if I plug into the 12V and Battery Neg ports? The motor IS in Neutral and the Neutral Switch in the Control Panel IS engaged. I KNOW the switch is good and everything was working Prior to this cause the guy I bought the motor from had a key from a Gun Safe that he was able to jiggle in the switch to get the motor to turn over to verify it would run. But now that I have messed with it a month later with a new working key, I got NUTTIN!!!! Can you GURU's give me some insight before I haul it to the shop and spend money that I might not need to spend??? HELP!!!!!

Here's a pic of the back of the switch...Wired...

Here's the wiring diagrams I found...

Never Mind!!! I found this...

And when I saw this FUSE I tracked it's location down on the motor and popped the housing and pulled the fuse and VOILA'. Blown Fuse!!! 20amp. Replaced it and All is well!!! I never claimed to be a Mek-A-Nek! In fact I HATE working on Motors of any kind. But...Being a C.O.B. I'm forced to try and fix things before spending money!!! Hope this might help someone else in the future.

That fuse is a common head scratcher on the electrical forum as most people don't consider that the motor electrical is separate from the boat electrical so the key gets power via the fuse at the motor rather than from the boat fuse box. Glad you got it fixed.
