anyone know what these mighty beasts draw? My manual shows 7A no-load but I'm curious about real draw under load.

Re: Current draw from 9.9HP starter (Evinrude)

Starters are basically a series wound motor, so they can deliver high torque in stall conditions.. I would hazzard to guess that it may draw on average with the plugs installed about 40 amp to 50 amp, and with the plugs out around 10 to 15 amp, that is if it is running freely .<br />This estimate is based on the wire size that I remember feeding the unit.

Thanks for the info. I'm almost finished converting a pull start to electric start. Will take a measurement once everything is up and running. The starter switch and neutral start switch I have is rated at 60A. Hopefully they will do.

Finally got this thing finished and running on the water. Electric start conversion turned out great. I measured starting current at 32A on average if anyone might be interested. I have installed a 50A in-line fuse for protection just-in-case.
