Which VHF antenna should I buy?

Hi Everyone ,

I have a SeaRay 240 SunDeck. I plan to purchase a Standard Horizon GX1700...What is the best 8' 6db antenna to pair it up with? I've narrowed my choice to the Shakespeare 6225 or the Digital 529-VW.

1. Between these two models, which would you pick (cost difference not being an issue)?
2. Any other models worth considering for best performance (range) and build-quality?

I have a Pacific Aerials Antenna.
The antenna cable connects to the Mounting Base instead of the Antenna itself.
This allows you to Remove/Replace the antenna easily if needed.
Getting the antenna out of the way during storage can be a plus for some.

The majority of their catalog can be found on ebay.

I'm not a fan of black antennas so I would go with Shakespeare 5225-XT or the 5225-FLT

I have both. The FLT is my primary. The XT is my backup vhf and AM/FM antenna
