I am confused about what a "common negative" is in a boat. I am installing a Yandina Combiner 100 12 volt Model C100 in my bass boat. The boat has two batteries. They say to connect the black wire (negative) to a "common negative." I do not see a common negative for a connection. Is a common negative just a connection between the negative terminals of the two batteries? Note: I I got the boat last fall, the owner had the two batteries wired in parallel with a switch to turn it off, apparently to try to charge both batteries. I removed the parallel wiring and switch because I thought there would be a chance one could could run down the staring battery and be left dead in the water.

I would really appreciate any information or suggetions.
