Sony CDX-M30 faceplate dead?

I installed a brand new Sony CDX-M30 stereo on my Hurricane. Matched wire for wire from stereo to boat wiring harness. Main unit is getting power as it will pull a CD in and eject it. However, when I attach the faceplate, nothing happens. No lights, beeps, or cries for help. Did the Sony helpless desk ideas (Reset button, Off, detach, attach, pat head rub tummy, etc). Old stereo had an orange/white wire that they named +12V. The Sony says their O/W is for illumination. Go figure. Just not sure where the o/w from stereo goes as there is no o/w in the existing wiring on boat.

Yep, that's the illumination wire. Try hooking it up to a switched 12V+ source and see if that powers it up.
