Marine Radio Antena question

Hello All,

Just got a Shakespeare? VHF Marine Antenna and I noticed that there is an extra peace of wire hanging on the bottom about 3-5" in length. I was wondering what that is or if it needs to be connected top anything. There is nothing in the instruction for that peace. The main cable runs 16' and connects to the marine radio but not sure on that other wire..

Any ideas?

Thanks
Zipp

This is a mystery.
Does anyone else have, own or seen in person a Shakespeare VHF antenna with that 2nd wire?
I'm not seeing anything like that on the Shakespeare web site or any where on the internet.
That link, number ,must be a bass pro part number.
Does it have any numbers on the antenna itself? Like 5244 ?
Zipp did you install this your self? Do you have a pic showing where the "ground" wire comes out of the antenna?
I'm not calling anyone a liar, it's just a mystery to me and I'm very curious about this. Maybe it's something new?

Looking at the first picture again, It appears to be coming from the Mounting Bracket and Not the Antenna itself.
It look like it attaches to the area behind the Release Arm.

Another picture of the other end of the wire would be helpful. :)

Did you buy it directly from BassPro or from someone else?
Did this wire come attached this way out of the box?

I'm guessing a factory defect per say. Owned many, mounted many. Never seen one with a second wire.

The extra wire comes directly out of the antena. The only directions that I had was how to hook up the coax cable to the marine radio. There is no model number or anything that might tell us what it actually is. I got it at bass pro shops (online). I was going to call the manufacter but dont know what to tell them when it comes to the model number

Shakespeare only makes a few antennas. How much did you pay for it?

Shakespeare prints model number on lower end of stick

Factory defect. Return it. That's the antenna wire. It should be held in place at the top of the tube
