Hello all. I have a 2000 Stingray with a 4.3L Mercruiser and having an issue starting the motor. I apologize if this was posted elsewhere, but I have tried searching all the posts and haven't found the same issue.

When I turn the key, all electronics work including the oil alarm. When I go to crank the engine, nothing happens...most of the time. If I keep turning the key it eventually catches and then fires up. What I don't know is whether this is an ignition switch (where the key is) or a coil or something else. Any suggestions would be very helpful as I have irritated kids and a wife ready to go boating.

Thanks!!

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

The first thing to do is clean all the connections involved: at the ignition switch and the starter and solenoid.

Make sure the wire on the starter has clean connection and is tight. Do not be afraid of using dielectric grease before making the connections. Actually, all electric connections. It helps prevent corrosion.
