Im looking at one of the built in gps models but it doesn't seem maps for northern ontario are made (sudbury and north).

Is it possible to add your own custom maps somehow?

Secondly, a bit of a beginner question....Im looking at possibly adding a non portable model to my jon boat . I want to power the unit from a lawnmower sized battery placed at the back with me as I want to keep weight down.

Would this work? if so, How much life could I get out the unit?

It appears the Navionics Hotmaps Premium(Region C) card covers your area of interest.
Custom Charts? If the charts exist, Navionics already has them.

A U1 Lawn Tractor battery (35Ah) will power you for over 40 hours.
Even a 7Ah gelcell should last 8-12 hours.

great reply, thanks.

I should iterate that what I mean by 'custom map' is a area that is not charted by Navionics but is viewable on screen regardless if it shows contour and topo information. I would want to add my own waypoint information.

... I would want to add my own waypoint information...

I have a Humminbird 700 Series GPS.
I can add WAYPOINTS absolutely anywhere in the world; including the middle of the Sahara desert if I desire. (6537 Miles/Brg.106 Deg!)
Waypoints are independent of the Charts installed.
I imagine yours will be the same.
