bilge pump install

hey guys, was just looking for some help im trying to re hook up my bilge pump, dosent seem to be working. if it dosent have a float switch and i try to turn it on dry will i still hear the pum p running when i turn it on? or will it not turn on dry? also if someone can post a link to good wiring diagram that would be great too thanks

It would help if you told us what kind of pump you had, model numbers and brand. Some have different wiring setups.
You also need to tell us what you want it to do. Auto only, manual only, able to do both.
