Hey everybody, this is my first post. I am going to put a pair of subs in my boat this winter and I'm thinking about going with a pair of the JBL MPS1000's. I have pretty limited space and I like the idea of not having to build a box. Anyone have any first hand experience with the MPS1000's?

You are, after all, on a "boat electrical forum", not a audio system forum. Yes - we have audio systems on our boats but this still, is not an audio related forum. Have an electrical problem with your system then this is the place to be.

Trying to put subs in a boat is a fruitless experience unless you have MASSIVE amps and boxes. The acoustics are all wrong for bass on the water. You'll either chase your tail or your wallet trying duplicate the boom that you get in cars. Apples and oranges.

Speaking from experience...

What Mark said. When referring to "bass" around here, this is what most members are thinking of:

Listening from outside the boat I agree that it takes a ton of power, but that is why I'm rigging mine up to daisy chain to other boats who are also chasing their tails and wallets.

How so....? You still need an amp to drive your own subs.

Not daisy chain off of their amp, I meant go from his line out to my line in. Basically linking them up so us deaf oilfield trash can hear it.

What amp(s) are you using to push all of this?

Re: Jbl mps1000

The subs are all one package, sub, sealed box, and 250w rms amp. There are 2 of those then I have a 260w rms driving my 4 6.5 inch speakers. So all together it's 760w rms. it would be more, but I'm out of room on my small boat.
