OMC trim gauge needs +12 volts when the ignition is on and a ground connnection. That connection can be at the +12 volt and ground terminal on any other gauge. The "S" terminal on the gauge comes from the trim sending unit on the engine. Without a picture or model number of the tach there isn't much we can do to help with dip switch settings. Are you certain the tach is universal and can actually be used on a two stroke? Also confused by what you mean by -- "on the sides goes from 1-7". Are there seven, three position dip switches, or three dip switches on the back and seven on the side, or ??????

Well which model is it ...loads on Google.....remember a 3 cly 2 stroke will have the same number of igition firings as a 6 cyl 4 stroke...but then again most modern 4 stroke car engines fire with a 2 stroke igniton pattern so you could be in trouble...did it not come with an instruction book ??

If this tach is being wired to the charging system then the number of cylinders in of no consequence. Johnny/Rudes delivers six pulses per rev regardless of the number of cylinders. If the tach has a setting that accomplish that number then the only issue would be whether or not the tach can recognize the pulse (proper waveform). If one attempts to wire it to a coil then it is simply a 1 pulse per rev on a two stroke.
