VHF Antenna Issues

So I went to a standard VHF after I made the mistake of forgetting my handheld so many times at the house. I Installed everything correctly (i'm no stranger to wiring). Turn on the the radio and nothing but static...check the weather station...nothing.

So I unscrew the shakespeare pl-259 from the back of the vhf and as soon as the coupler is detached from the unit and there is no contact between the outer casing of the pl-259 and the vhf, everything works fine. The only thing in contact from the antenna to the VHF is the male pin on pl-259. I can transmit and receive perfectly clear with just that pin in place as soon as its screwed to the unit...nothing.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Re: VHF Antenna Issues

I think you have a short between the conductors in the antenna cable. It could just be a sloppy solder job at the connector.
