I'm just now getting around to looking for a unit for my bowrider. dont want anything uber expensive as I'll probably hard mount it and sell it with the boat when I'm ready to upgrade in a few years.

I'm honestly starting at ground zero and am very noobish on terms with these things.

I'm wondering if there are any all-in-one compact type units out there?

like ones that combine depth/fish finding with say GPS so you can track your boat speed. I dont really need a chart plotter since I stay in the bay with this boat obviously and I know the area but I'd like to be able to get depth/fish/boat speed.

I dont want some massive unit that can display better than my lcd tv screen though, just looking to spend maybe a couple hundred bucks. It also doesnt have to be new, I see used units on ebay all the time, I just dont know what I'm looking at is all.

here's a couple that I "think" have what I want on them?

this one seems to have the highest boat speed ability

this one looks like its got really good resolution on it

lol!

well do you happen to know if its got true GPS based speed? I need to calibrate my speedometer pipet tube and want something I use against it. I remember my old fishfinder would stop functioning after about 8mph or so.

I've got a little older version of this;

http://www.basspro.com/Humminbird-Fishfinder-560/product/10205385/-1648099

Works great and easy to install. Seems to like to draw power though, so I used the "set-up features" to let me know when the volts get to a certain point in order to monitor.

(edit: I don't think it's GPS speed, however)

I use my GPS for speed and basically rely on this unit to keep me from scraping bottom.

According to the manual I found here http://www.eaglenav.com/upload/Eagle/Documents/Manuals/Cuda-350-SMAP-0152-32A-120808.pdf it displays "ground speed" so I think the answer to your question is yes.

Cuda 350; Great gps/fishfinder. Had mine several months and am more than pleased. Performs as advertised and is more sophisticated than I need. Good visibility. No complaints.

Watch out. Lowrance model with an X are missing something, usually GPS. Also, they market the same depthfinder with different internal maps, and maybe even transducer capabilities.

With that said, I have a Lowrance HDS5, with the cheap transducer (works for both frequencies under 100', not well published fact), lake insight, and a lakemaster chip for my state. I love it. With unlimited wallet, it'll do everything you can imagine from music to radar to side image sonar.

Don't know what your concern for speed is. GPS isn't limited in speed, it's just math to it. For a fast boat, you need a skimmer transducer. Through hull works at moderate speeds.

I have a skimmer on a bass boat. If I get into junky water, I'm often hanging over the stern pushing the thing back into the lake. Not a big deal, you soon get the hang of seeing when the display is cockeyed.
