Furuno 620: Shoot Thru Hull or Transom?

I need your advice on what ducer to purchase. I am rigging up a 29 foot Penn Yan Predator boat and would prefer the Shoot Thru transducer but never have used one before. I only have delt with Transom Mounts on my smaller boats. I have my eye on the Airmar P79 but was wondering if anybody has had good results using it. I just want to make sure i am going to get as much performance out of my unit as possible. Thanks!

I pick neither.

I?m running the 620?s big brother, the 585. I started off with a P79. Decent transducer but could never get it to work well at speed. I swapped the P79 out for a thru hull, oil bath. My speed issues disappeared with the oil bath but so did my sensitivity.

I finally bit the bullet and installed an Airmar B164 tilted element transducer. The performance was like day and night.

On the 620, I?d install an Airmar B60 tilted element transducer in a heart beat
