Are some trolling motors not compatible with Optima batteries?

I have been away from the boating scene for over 2 decades so maybe I am jumping the gun here. I have a Minn Kota 40T trolling motor. I have an AH55 Optima deep cycle battery (model SCDM34). The battery is fully charged but when hooking the motor up to it, it seems the blade is not spinning all that fast for 40 lbs of thrust. The guy who sold me the motor had no problem with it. I hooked up another battery to make it 24V and it did get a lot faster but still, 74 lbs of thrust with the 2 batteries seems like it should roar a little. I have not yet taken the boat out and really felt it work so am I just paranoid or is there something incompatible about this battery and this motor set-up? Is that possible? Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me!

Which trolling motor do you have? You can't hook up 24V to a 12V motor without damaging it.

Hello Bill, as I said, it is a Minn Kota 40T, which can handle 24V. Thanks.
