Any opinions on which is a better radio: the Standard Horizon Matrix or the Uniden 525?

ICOM is the standard to which others are judged but the Matrix is a good unit. The Matrix comes highly recommended by the electronics installers in our area.

Icom is not that great. It's good, but it's up for debate whether it's the best. I can tell you that Icom makes a good HAM radio, but so does Yaesu. Icom's marine radios are good too, but so is Uniden and Si-Tex. I have a Uniden CB from around 1998. That thing has not seen any care apart from being thrown on a shelf in a humid environment. That thing is still working just fine.

I've been using Uniden for years without any problems. When I was a firefighter we also used alot of their gear on our fire boat, and fire departments don't buy cheap gear.
