A neighbor was going through his old boat stuff and gave me a furuno fcv663 fishfinder/depth machine. He didn't have the transducer.Questions I have, 1)is this a good machine,2)is it worth getting a transducer for cost wise 3)does Furuno have any kind of program that you can send unit to them and for fixed fee they go through it making any necessary repairs, yrs.ago many companies did ,though not advertised.Any info on this unit is appreciated.MIKE

1) yes
2) yes
3) I suspect it would be an 'as required' based repair cost.

Here is a website address for that unit. You'll also find a list of transducers under "Accesories"
"http://www.furunousa.com/Furuno/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Product=com.webridge.entity.Entity%5BOID%5BD001B8F38A54FB4899DFBB917BF1C500%5D%5D&Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity%5BOID%5B20A0A55CFE71584B8F7350031C767C4C%5D%5D

I worked for Furuno (as a technician) when they were new and was very impressed by them. They're an older unit now an don't have many of the cool features of the newer units, like DSP, but still give good pictures.

Here is one just for that unit.
"http://www.furunousa.com/Furuno/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[20A0A55CFE71584B8F7350031C767C4C]]&Product=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[D001B8F38A54FB4899DFBB917BF1C500]]&ProductCategory=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[254A7571FC212F4DA79DA0E900AFCE78
There you can look up the accesories, transdusser, etc for it.

That unit is a little short on power (150 RMS) but it work well if you are not fishing deep water.

I'd suggest you check out Airmar for the transducer. Airmar makes the transducers for Furuno so you might you might as well go straight to the source.

Here is a link to the P66 transducer. Pretty much the standard OEM 8 pin transducer for Furuno.

The older FG-200 MK 3 had an output power of 10 watts RMS and that was good to about 100 metres. It's generally not the output power of the transmitter, that determines the effective range but the sensitivity of the receiver. The 663 should be good to about 200 metres with a good transducer.
