OMC 85hp Remote wiring replacement

I have a 1980 V4 85hp Johnson
The wiring from the red plug to the remote box is giving me an intermittent fault so i want to replace all the wiring
Can anyone give me the heads up to which gauge wire to use ??
Can i run one size for all the wires or will i have to use smaller cable when called for?
How do i know which cable should be say 14 gauge for example is there a way to check this in the factory manual ?
