Garmin GPSMAP 440s and Airmar P17 transducer - can it work?

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 440s and am trying to get them to work together. The tranducer has 3 wires (blue, black, clear) and all of the wiring diagrams say blue is depth +, black is depth -, and clear is either temp or shield. The garmin wiring diagram says pin 4 is depth +, pin 5 is depth -, and pin 6 is temp. Unfortunately when i hook it up this way, the unit says the transducer is disconnected and sounder is turned off.

The tag on the transducer says:

Can anyone help figure out if this combination can be made to work and if so what im missing?
