Thanks, looks like I didn't say what I was thinking, it was regular Doppler vs digital Doppler.

Guess is the same, more power larger antenna equals longer range and can see smaller objects. Digital not as refined but may do OK with inland lakes

Not sure what you mean by regular or digital doppler.

Solid State, Digital, Broad Band radar are basically all the same (digital) technologies. Doppler is a secondary function that is added to "digital" radar.

Doppler is used to detect velocity so it can tell you if the object is moving away or towards you.
