There's a cap on the back of my alternator that goes to two terminals that says do not remove. Can I remove this cap, even though it says do not remove, and to run it to an indicator light? Or, is that against the protection of the flammability USCG requirements for the alternator.

It does... I have not run my engine at a high enough RPM to tell that it actually charges. I realized that when I let it idle and it suddenly died. No charge to the battery. I've only seen it stay at ~12V while running and idling, and have yet to figure out when it kicks in. Thought it could be a good indicator.
