Tach running wild RPMs

Hi all, just got a new-to-me boat a few weeks ago. I've taken it out a couple times, and have found, and addressed a few issues. One that is haunting my nightmares though, is the tach. It's a 7k needle, but I KNOW, I'm not running 7k on my 1991 Evinrude 120 at 3/4 throttle, yet it's completely burying the needle at anything above just faster than plane. Could it just be a simple connection issue, or could it need re-calibrating/replacement with one designed for this engine?

Check the calibration dial on the back. Should be set to 6P. Gently turn the dial back and forth a few times to burnish the contacts.

Sooooo, she was set to 5 instead of 6. PO must not have changed it when he swapped the 120 on. Also replaced the coils to hopefully get rid of my 3/4 throttle brick wall I've been running into.
