I know there is a lot of topics on this but i havent seen any with my problem. I have a alpha one gen 2 outdrive, and my trim gauage is not working. So i took of the sender and if i turn it by hand the gauge works fine up and down but when i put it back in and lower the motor it doesnt work. Any thoughts? I dont know why it would work by hand and not when installed. Could the gear on the gimbal housing be bad? Thanks

First, when you took off the trim sender, on the side next to the housing, there appears to be hex protrusion on the sender and it must fit into the housing. Does it look ok?
Best picture I can find of the back side -> http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/8HcAAOSwDuJWwkCu/s-l300.jpg

Second, did you align it per instructions in the service manual 14?
Reinstall trim limit switch as follows:
a. Place drive unit in full DOWN/IN position.
b. Turn center rotor to align index mark on rotor with index mark on sender body.
