What gauge wire?

I picked up a used Minn Kota endura 40 with battery today. I want to extend the length of the wires so I can keep the battery in the front of my inflatable boat. What gauge wire should I use?

Go up one "step" in wire gauge (EG if it came with 10, get 8, because I've never seen 9) from the original installed on the trolling motor. Should be good for any length boat where that trolling motor is appropriate.

The OEM wire gauge and type should be on the wire.
