I have a 1982 Mako 236 with a straight inboard. I recently damaged the prop. To the old prop to the local shop here in Panama city and that advised me it is not worth fixing.
May damaged prop is a 13x10 rh with 1 1/4" Shaft
After much research and mathmatics I have came to the conclusion that I need a 13x13 or a 14x12
Well during my visit at the prop shop the owner advised me that a 13x13 and 14x12 are basically the same prop.
But here is my delima.
The 13x13 1 x 1/4" is $575 and they have a used 14x12 x 1 3/8" For a fraction of that.
The 14x12 is a demo prop that is in excellent condition.
But if you notice that the shaft is a 1/8" bigger on the 14x12
Finally my question.
I plan on purchasing the 14x12 x 1 3/8" prop
Which shim should I use a nylon or a brozen shim.
Also I would like your opinions on the stability of both shims,.
thanks
chad
