197? Selco Selstar renovation

Hi everyone, i recently bought my first classic polyester speedboat.

Price was for the outboard engine, so i knew it had some work for the near future.
During the summer period we ( the family ) used it often.
Already had to do some work on the outboard engine to keep it running smootly, but this was easy fix.

After the summer pulled it out of the water and the first issues showed themself.
Probably nothing that can't be fixed, but it will be learning on the job.
As polyester work is new to me.

Thus the application to the iboats forum.

On the trailer gutted the interior out, lots of rotten wood from the seats.
Took the wooden floor out which was on the polyester floor out, and tadaa the past repairs appeared.
No. good, small inspection done and the whole floor has rotten away.
Holes drilled in the bilge area????? And water sprying out when i walk there.

Thanks, I would say polyester.
But i'm no expert.

So far winter is coming, well temperatures are going down a bit.
So plan is to clear out the hull, and sand the outside.
Prepare her for next spring, for the build up.

Does anybody here have information about the brand Selco?
Sofar internet didn't give my much information about this brand.

Good old fiberglass, what a word. I could use it a be talking about a fabric or a resin or the combo as in a fiberglass boat. I might be talking about "Fiberglas" marketed by Owens-Corning used for insulation. I might say FRP and mean fiber-reinforced polymer or fibre-reinforced plastic. I might say GRP and mean glass-reinforced plastic or polymer. So whatever you call it it all boils down to glass fibers and a polymer. Luckily we all usually know what they really mean!

Good plan so far cause the weather is achanging. Get as much grunt work done as possible, like you said abnd come Spring or a garage you can jump right back into it. Lots to learn here. Whats a Netherland? Only kidding.

The netherlands is the main capital of Amsterdam, wich is in Danmark

The cotton is probably on the inside

Not much done lately.
Did some sanding on the outside, anti fouling is coming off ok.
Found some more repairs wich where hiding under the anti fouling, but these look good.
Forgot to take pictures.

Oh, and while sanding the keel water appeared from under the keel, from the inside to the outside.
There should be a surprise under the floor waiting for me.

Cool. So it's time to start ripping up the floor and knock out that nasty stuff. With that the temps don't care. Also Iffin you're doing that make sure you have a GREAT
waterproof cover to ptotect your work. You might slip around on the site and see some and who knows...work thru the cold winter.

Weather is improving, so the power tools helped me shred out the wooden floor and started out removing old smelly foam.
Plenty of water in the wood and foam., she should have loosed a couple of pounds when she is restored.

No rotten stringers or bulkheads found underneath the floor.
Apperantly it's a foam / wood deck construction.
The glas fiber underneath the foam is still in good condition, so that shouldn't require any work.

Will take pictures next time and update accordingly
