Are you gonna need a bigger dog house?

I wonder if Santa picks up hitchhikers? :thumb:

Holy Cow 64, the deals just keep falling into your lap, a Johnny 70 with TnT a decent trailer and an ugly itchy boat for a $100. Even the Admiral can't be mad about that.

Pretty sweet. It is power tilt only but still a great deal.

The extras would cost more than $100. More on that after the big ugly thing is brought home.

I think the Admirals level of disgust will be relative to how quickly the hull disappears from the boat yard:attention:

Seriously? How about sending some of that deal finding prowess south. Really good find. Even if it means you're in the dog house a little longer.

Seriously, Yeah

I could send some prowess your way but it comes with snow and cold.:blue:

Really just got lucky, right place, right time, been looking since I picked up the hull.

Figured I would inform the Admiral while she was in a good mood.

She just came home from getting her hair done and shopping. She is always in a good mood after that.

She told me not to talk about it anymore and I owe her a new shower in the bathroom. I can do that.:)

I'm not homeless!:D

That is quite the project you got going there. She does have some great lines and will certainly look pretty cool when completed. Great negotiating on the donor boat. I keep checking C/L in the event I can find some more cheap tin to play with.

Willy, Thanks for stopping by. She does have good lines, hoping I can bring out the best of her.

Your MBS sounds like it needs some help. What are you looking for?

Mission Impossibly Stupid - Code name - Retrieve Ugly Donor - Was successful, but not without a small hitch.

Drove down and pulled the donor to the parking lot. Pulled each wheel, greased and tightened the bearings. Found one of the cotter pins was missing the head, replaced it with a finish nail bent to hold the castle nut. Changed the tires out with the ones from the Lone Star Big Fisherman. Was able to get one light working pretty quickly. Running with one working trailer light is legal in Michigan. Put a really big strap on it and headed home.

Stopped twice to check the bearings. Things were looking and feeling good. While floating along at 55 there was a load POW. Pulled off the two lane and found the passenger tire had blown. Tire only had about 300 miles on it.

Not sure if it was overloaded (990lb tire) might have been close. The fender was bent away from the frame and sharp edges were pointed towards the tire. Found lot of rust between the fender and the frame. Thinking it may have worked loose and cut the tire.

Doing my best impression of a Viagra commercial, I calmly tore off the fender, pumped up the better of the original tires, and changed the tire. Was able to wind my way home the last 10 miles on the back roads.

So there is now another itchy boat darkening the boat yard.

Not over yet, still have to salvage the motor, the booty and dispose of it.

Here is most of the booty, Arrrrr!

Moeller 12 gallon above deck tank with new hose.

IMAG07021.jpg

Nice NIB anchor light

IMAG07051.jpg

Good battery and box.

IMAG07081.jpg

Some Baby Moons, hope they clean up.

IMAG07031.jpg

A spare prop, Attwood bilge pump, muffs, 4 new life jackets and a huge boat bumper.

IMAG07071.jpg

Now to figure out how to put a bilge pump in a hull with no bilge pit.

Man that's a nice bunch of boat stuff, I had a pile in my donor boat too, even got me a nice big fluke anchor. Any good dock or bow lines?

The 12 gal tank is a huge score alright but that gray atwood hose needs to go to the trash can new or not. I bet it will turn stiff in a few months if not already permanently bent into the shape its in right now.

All good stuff.

Well maybe not that RV captains chair.

Probably shouldn't complain when a free trailer ends up shredding a tire.

Spent some quality time with my donor boat today.

First up was to see if the motor was a runner. Hooked up the muffs, grabbed the dead mans switch and the spare tank from the Mariner and tried to fire it up.

It barely would crank over, slow as molasses. Hooked the charger up to the battery and still very slow. Cleaned all the connections from the battery to the starter and still no luck.

Pulled the plugs and tried it. She seemed to kick over great. Plugs back in and no luck.

Grabbed a different battery and

Sam was pretty happy too. :D:happy:

***********************************************************************
Pulled the motor on to a stand and started stripping the rest of the boat.

While pulling the controls I found this.

IMAG07171.jpg

Surprised the motor even thought about kicking over. Also would explain why the electric choke didn't work. That was below the sole.

Also realized I was pretty lucky that the motor even made it home. IMAG07191.jpg

The welded steel cap must have been helping the transom a little.

Next up DISPOSAL.

Oh yeah you got a poppin Johnny! thumb:

I don't know if I've seen a transom that bad before. The scary thing is people still use boats with transoms that are like that :faint2:

This hull was toast. Looking it over as it was being stripped I saw some truly ugly patches underneath and there were cracks everywhere.

I'm glad to say there is one less ugly rotten boat that might have been used. You can see the patches on the bottom as it flips over.

Sorry I had my phone turned the wrong way.

Another unsafe nasty glasser sent to the dump before an unsuspecting new boater took her back to sea.:heh:

I was watching the video and the Admiral came in and said what's that crunching sound. I said that's what's gonna happen to our Stratos if I don't get on the ball.:D
She was not amused!
