saw cuts in hull of fiberglass boat

I am completely refurbishing a Viking Deck Boat and during the demolition of the wooden cross beams I cut a narrow slice through the hull in two places. The cuts are about 3" long and an 1/8-1/4" wide. Can I just fill the two cuts with epoxy resin or do I need to grind a circle around the cuts and reglass to repair the cuts? Thoughts?

Grind and glass on the inside and fair on the outside, SM fairing compound and epoxy resin makes a real nice filler that sands easily.
