Glastron GT185 upholstered engine cover rusted hinge nuts

I have a 2008 Glastron GT185 and the nuts inside the plywood, under the upholstered engine cover, rusted completely. The bolts are stainless and they all (6) fell out from under the cover. The bolts are on hinges connecting the cover to the transom. The hinges on the transom are OK. Apparently the nuts that are inside the cover are not stainless, as they rusted out. Anyone experience this?

The engine cover on my Four Winns had some soft spots at the hinges. I bolted the hing to a piece of 4'X6" plate. I drilled holes in the corners of the plate and used some lag screws to secure the plate to the plywood engine cover. As long as you can spread out the bolt pattern so you can screw into good wood, you should be OK.
