Hi, I'm new here.
I recently picked up a 1979 Tempest.
The motor, hull, and canvas top seem to be in excellent shape, but the interior is sun dried and weather cracked from a lack of use on the canvas top.
I ordered some new lounging seats from my local marine store, but when I went to install them I found out the floor under the old seats was quite soft.
So out came the seats, carpet, etc to see what I was dealing with. Left with this:
Some definite weak spots in the floor so I started ripping away.
Now I have this. Great haha
I am new to boat restoring, but I am pretty handy and dumb enough to attempt anything haha.
Does it look like the existing foam and stringers could be dried out and reused with new fiberglass coating? I have already removed the sitting water.
My gut instinct is to rip out the remaining plywood floor, pull out the wet foam, cut out the stringers, grind flat with hull, lay some new stringers with some adhesive then glass in, pour new foam, glass in new plywood floor, then a few coats of glass over the whole thing.
