Hello all !!! This is my first post here on iboars. I have been looking around all week and have learned a lot of new information.
Last week I acquired a 1976 Sea Ray Srv 190 from a friend of my father in law. The Boat has been stored in his garage for the last 13-14 years. It was winterized when he stored it. He stopped using the boat because the floor had begun to rot away. The rot originated from the screw holes of bucket seats. He has already removed all the effected flooring. There is no damage on the stringers or the transom. He provided me with new marine grade plywood l, some resin and other misc supplies as well. I am anxious to get started on this project but I have a couple of questions first. The main thing is last night I was inspecting every using trying to get my game plan together and I realized that none of the stringers are glassed in. These are the original stringers they appear to have been sealed and there is some type of adhesive between them and the hull but no fiberglass. Is this something that is common in older boats? Since I have most of the floor out should I go ahead and tab the stringers in and glass them? Since there is not any damage to the stringers from the rotten floor before should I just leave it alone? I was thinking that maybe there was a different type of engineering done and could glassing it in change the structural integrity in an negative way? Any and all in put is appreciated. I will upload some photos this evening.

Welcome to iBoats!

We love Pics! A Free Photobucket account is the best way to post em! No foam in the boat? I'd for sure recommend 1.) Glass the stringers, and 2.) Foam the hull. Since she's been Garage kept, I can understand why the stringers may be preserved, unusual, but it's possible. Have you checked the transom and motor mounts too? While the deck is out you should ensure everything is 100% sound.

Get those pics posted and you'll get all the help you can stand!!!

Here are some links to pictures of the boat. I will remove the piece of floor that is in boat when I get home and get some pictures of the stringers up close.

Woodonglass, yes there was flotation foam in boat originally and I plan to replace that as well. I tapped on motor mounts and transom with a hammer and they sound solid. I also took a large screw driver and pushed in multiple areas and did not get any indication of soft spots.

That's such a beautiful design for a boat and one of my favorites. They still look great in the water.

Sounds that it's going to be well worth fixing. Be careful going through the boat, and remember that if it's not broken it doesn't need to be fixed.

Thanks, I think this is one design that ages well. This boat came from the factory with the sun deck and bench seat in the back and captains chairs up front. I have not been able to find even picture of another one configured that way.

Was the Foam waterlogged? Tapping on the stringers and poking with a screwdriver is not a reliable method to determine their viability. They are encapsulated in fiberglass. The glass could be solid but the core completely rotten. You should use a drill to drill into them to determine the state of the core material. If the wood is light in color and dry then you're good to go. If it's dark and wet then replacement will be needed. Transom, motor mounts, stringers and bulkheads all need to be sampled. If they're good then fill the holes with 3M 5200 sealant and move on. If they're bad then use a sawzall to cut everything out, grind the hull down to flat and start all over with a clean slate. Plenty of examples here on the forum to show you how it's done. We're here to help so don't hesitate to ask.;)
