glue removal

So I am in the process of removing all the flooring etc in my boat. This is all pretty straight forward and going as expected. My main concern at this point is removing the carpet glue from the sides.

I had figured that a really course (40 grit) flapper disc would remove it easily but as I have found it seems to smear it a lot.

Any hints to get rid of the nasty mess. I had planned on going with some sort of bed liner coating but if I cant remove all of the glue I will not be able to. I assume I would have to go back to carpet which I do not want to do.

Any help ???

Re: glue removal

If it's aluminum use paint stripper on it. It will eat it off in nothing flat. Rinse well with water and scrub with a scotch brite pad after the stripper. Then follow the instructions for surface prep with the bed liner material.

Re: glue removal

Cup brush on a 4-1/2" grinder eats away carpet glue fast!

Methyl ethyl ketone, a.k.a. MEK is what you need. It works. Really.
