i do have another question regarding vinyl. i see with yours jigngrub that you only had one sheet of decking to do. i have 3 i would have to do do. the 4th can be left alone its covered by storage. how do you get around water getting in the seams where the pieces of decking connect?

I have 4 pieces of decking on my boat, but only 1 butt joint (you called it a seam) and it's concealed with aluminum trim on the front deck.

This is how I installed the trim:

Both pieces of angle are attached to one sheet of decking and the second piece of decking is slid under the piece of angle overhang, this makes a very tight joint. It's not waterproof, but very little water gets through because it's so tight. the water goes over or around the joint before it can start to seep into it. They do make an aluminum "T" that can be used instead of 2 angles but I couldn't find one locally and just made my own.
