I have a hatch on my Center Console casting deck that is about 3'x4' The underside of the fiberglass hatch seems to be peeling away since the wood inside is rotten on one side. My question is can I cut off the back side and install new wood in the molded hatch? If so how would you go about glassing it in?

Re: Hatch restore?

I'm working on a similar project for my anchor hatch (much smaller though... about 12" x 6" triangular). Wood was rotted within so I dug all the wood out, sanded/grinded the inside of the hatch to fresh glass. I had some marine grade ply leftovers so cut to size and covered in a couple layers of CSM and resin. As soon as the weather warms up, I'll be mixing up a batch of PB to glue it in and use the PB to fill in all the gaps between the hatch cap and new wood. From the sounds of your situation, you can prob do similar.... But I'm sure others will chime in with much more experience with this.
