just picked up a 1974 Dixie malibu 14 footer, came with a 72 4.5 mercury outboard. this is going to be a budget build fishing boat, will sell the little outboard and put a 25hp + motor on it, transom is rotted, front deck is rotted and pretty sure the bench is rotted as well it kinda bulges out in the middle, should be a fairly easy build for a glass boat.1471846_789090624439472_908577634_n.jpg1486758_789090671106134_1697843010_n.jpg1507155_789090551106146_218409654_n.jpg1525191_789090591106142_390218112_n.jpg

started on it the other day, pulled up front deck and found a bunch of mulch, making me itch just thinking about it. deck is out, will do the cap next on the nose and get the bench and transom, but need to get a new grinder first the sawzall just take to long and the blades are a little long as i now have a cut through the hull to fix. pics after day onebaot4a.jpgboat4.jpg

The bench you removed probably offered some support across the width of the hull for the gunwales, as did the live wells & deck you removed at the bow. And there probably was a good bit of flotation foam in the structures your removed as well.

What's under that center section that covers the keel:

What's the plan for put back of the support & foam?

You made quick work of the clean out so far. Make sure the boat hull hasn't moved or flexed after removing the interior.

Yeah, I agree with JBC!!! Hopefully you took a bunch of measurements before you did all the demo so you can ensure the hull goes back to relatively the same configuration she was in the beginning. If not the way she performs on the water can suffer. The Seats in the boat provided all the support for the sides of the hull so you'll for sure need to do some serious re-engineering on that to ensure she is structurally sound from that aspect. How is the boat going to be utilized? What kind of water will she be on? These little glass tri-hulls are pretty flimsy and you might need to consider laying some additional glass to stiffen up the hull or maybe not. Your Call. 25 hp fishing boat may not be needed. Are you going to put foam back in?

i got plenty of measurements, the center section is open underneath going to se it to run wiring and such, back is going to be a deck with foam in the corners, no livewells but will brace where they went and the front will be about the same

well, hadnt had a chance to do much on this boat until the last couple of weeks, finished with the grinding and now in process of building it. got the bulkheads glassed in, transom is in, started to foam and ran out of foam, so i flipped it and started to sand and do the repairs on the bottom.

bottom is done and boat is flipped back over and ready to finish the interior once the foam arrives, i did pick up a motor for it this week, found an 86 evinrude 25hp tiller in great shape and ordered some deck hatches today to put in the rear deck
